Child Behavioral Problems

If you have young children you may have observed at some point that they are like parrots. They recite the bad and good things they hear you say as well a mimics your behavior. We have to remember to be on our good behavior.

This brings to mind my 6 year old niece. She is as sweet as an angel give or take a tantrum now and then.

Lately the child had been using bad words, not just bad words but actually using profanity. For 3 straight days she repeated the same phase when greeting her teacher at school. It was if this happened over night, out of no where she appeared to have mastered profanity.

No one could figure out why she would say such bad things to her teacher.

Mom and Dad were adamant that they did not use profane language, especially not in the presence of their child. The teacher of course did not think that the child learned this at school. Her parents sat with the child and told her that she should never use profanity and why.

The quest was on to find out where she discovered such things. The parents thought that the child understood what she did was wrong having talked to her without any scolding or punishment.

She went to school the next day, and she greeted her teacher with the same bad words. Once again the called the parents to report that the child had used profanity again.

She was clearly displaying defiant behavior. The child went home after school and her parents talked to her again. The child appeared not to take them seriously; in fact she thought it was rather funny, laughing during the conversation. This time punishment ensued she was not allowed to watch TV or play with her toys.

The following morning the child went to school and said the same phrase to the teacher. The parents were contacted by the teacher and told them that if this continued the child would be ejected from school. The parents were feeling defeated, they had tried talking and punishment with the child, now what?

They decided that perhaps a spanking would help. The child was spanked and told to never to say those bad words to the teacher again.

Well the next morning the child entered the classroom greeting the teacher in a positive manner. Everyone was happy with the good attitude. The child has not used any profanity since the spanking.

Did the spanking work?Perhaps, regardless was this the best way to handle the situation, after all the parents did not want their child ejected from school.
